Claire Larson, BA —
I am currently working towards my doctorate in clinical psychology at Augsburg University. While working closely with women and children living in a rural residential drug and alcohol treatment center and with individuals living in group homes, I realized the power of therapy and knew I wanted to be a part of that. As I sat in my assessment classes in my first year of graduate school, I started to also see the power that an assessment can have for an individual. When I work with a client in an assessment or therapy capacity, I like to work collaboratively to determine what tools they may benefit from as they move through their days. I greet them with grace and humor (when appropriate) as they navigate difficult situations or feelings. I enjoy working with clients across the lifespan including those as young as 7 and up through later adulthood. I believe that each person has their own developmental path and trajectory, which is reflected in my therapeutic style as I try to tailor my care to each client and support them Ina way that they feel most comfortable. I enjoy working from a client-centered, strength-based, and culturally affirming perspective that fosters a sense of empowerment in each client.
